Privacy Policy

SportsPal connects adults for real-world sports and activities. That requires some personal information, including account details, user-generated content, and—when you choose to use location features—location data. This Policy explains SportsPal's practices across its mobile apps, website, and related services.

1. Scope and who controls your data

This Privacy Policy applies to SportsPal – Local Activities, including the SportsPal iOS and Android apps, sportspalapp.com, and related features, communications, and support (together, the “Service”).

SportsPal (“SportsPal,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is the controller or business responsible for deciding how personal data is processed through the Service, except where a third-party service clearly acts under its own privacy policy. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to sportspalapplication@gmail.com.

This Policy does not replace the privacy policy of a venue, club, tournament organizer, map provider, app store, sign-in provider, retailer, or other independent third party you choose to interact with.

2. Privacy at a glance

• Core data only

  SportsPal uses account, profile, activity, social, messaging, device, and optional location data to operate and secure the Service.

• No data sale

  We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party targeted advertising or cross-app behavioral tracking.

• Location is controlled

  Device location depends on your permission and feature choice. Locations or routes you post can be visible to the audience of that content.

• Real-world visibility

  Profiles, joins, clubs, rosters, posts, and organizer information may be shown to other users so activities can function.

• Messages are private, not end-to-end encrypted

  Chat participants can see messages. Limited access may occur for reports, safety, support, security, or legal compliance.

• Adults only

  SportsPal is restricted to users aged 18 or older. Suspected underage accounts may be investigated and removed.

3. Information we collect

The exact information depends on the features you use, the permissions you grant, your device, and your region.

3.1 Account, authentication, and age information

• Email address, display name, username, account identifier, authentication tokens, and account status.
• Date of birth or age-confirmation information used to enforce the 18+ requirement.
• Information received from Apple, Google, Facebook, or another sign-in provider if you choose that sign-in method, such as your name, email address, provider account identifier, and profile image, depending on the provider and your settings.
• Security information such as login timestamps, IP address, session information, and signals used to detect suspicious or unauthorized access.

3.2 Profile, social, and preference information

• Profile photo, bio, favorite sports, interests, experience or activity preferences, social links, chosen area, language, theme, discovery radius, visibility choices, and notification preferences.
• SportsPals, friend or connection relationships, invitations, blocks, mutes, and other social actions.
• Goals, participation history, saved routes, route history, and similar progress or planning information when you use those features. Sports and participation data may be treated as fitness-related information in some jurisdictions, but SportsPal is not a medical or health-record service.

3.3 Activities, clubs, tournaments, and user content

• Activities you create, join, leave, save, invite others to, or interact with, including sport, time, location, meeting point, participant limits, format, gear, attendance status, and host information.
• Club information, including names, descriptions, logos or badges, rules, home locations, membership, roles, recurring activities, posts, and chats.
• Tournament information, including event details, dates, locations, organizer contact information, divisions, eligibility settings, club registrations, team or player rosters, and participation status.
• Posts, comments, reactions, ratings or reviews if available, photos, videos, captions, files, reports, appeals, and other content you submit.
• Direct messages, activity chats, club chats, tournament chats, replies, reactions, images, audio messages or other attachments, along with message metadata such as sender, recipient, chat, time, delivery, read, typing, and reaction status.

3.4 Location, route, and map information

• Approximate or precise device location when you grant permission and use location-based features.
• Locations you search for, select, save, or publish, including an area, venue, activity meeting point, club home location, tournament location, route start or end point, and directions request.
• GPX files, routes you draw or upload, route coordinates, distance, elevation, and route-history information.
• Your current position while you actively use Live GPS or offline route guidance. Depending on how you use a route, precise location may be processed on the device, transmitted to provide a requested map or weather function, or saved when you choose to create, upload, or reuse a route.
• Approximate location inferred from IP address for security, regional settings, and basic Service operation.

3.5 Device, usage, diagnostics, and communications

• Device and app information such as device type, operating system, app version, language, time zone, network information, app or device identifiers, push-notification token, and IP address.
• Product interaction and usage information such as app launches, screens or content viewed, searches and filters, taps, joins, leaves, invitations, feature use, timestamps, referral or campaign parameters, and notification interactions.
• Crash reports, error logs, loading times, performance information, update status, and other technical diagnostics.
• Support requests, feedback, complaints, safety reports, correspondence, and information reasonably needed to investigate or answer them.

3.6 Device permissions and user-directed integrations

• Camera and photo library: profile images, posts, chat media, club or tournament media, and QR-related features you choose to use.
• Microphone: audio messages or other audio features you actively use.
• Notifications: push tokens and notification delivery or interaction information for chats, activity updates, reminders, safety notices, and other settings you enable.
• Calendar: activity title, date, time, and location when you direct SportsPal to add or sync an activity with your device calendar. Your calendar provider may process that information under its own policy.
• Wallet: selected profile details, sports, photo, account or profile link, QR code, and pass metadata when you choose to create or update a SportsPal Pass in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
• Sharing and downloads: content you direct the device to share, save, or open in another app, such as a GPX file, image, route, invitation, profile link, or directions request.

3.7 Information from other people and services

• Information submitted about you by other users, such as invitations, roster entries, reports, comments, reactions, photos, messages, or club and tournament actions.
• Information from sign-in, app-store, push, map, weather, wallet, analytics, crash-reporting, security, and support providers to the extent needed to provide the selected feature.
• Information generated from the data above, such as distance estimates, nearby results, activity suggestions, safety signals, likely spam indicators, and aggregate performance metrics.

4. Information we do not currently collect

SportsPal currently does not require payment-card details, does not access Apple Health or Google Health Connect, does not upload your phone address book, and does not use biometric identification or government-ID verification. SportsPal also does not require a subscription or credit card to create an account.

If a future feature requires a new category of sensitive information, SportsPal will provide an appropriate notice and obtain permission or consent where required before that processing begins. Do not send government IDs, medical records, financial information, passwords, or other highly sensitive material through profiles, posts, routes, or chats.

5. How and why we use information

For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and other regions that require a legal basis, the basis depends on the purpose and context. A device permission is a technical control and is not automatically the same as consent under data-protection law.

Where SportsPal relies on legitimate interests, it considers the purpose, necessity, reasonable user expectations, privacy impact, and available safeguards. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests as explained in Section 16.

If SportsPal relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Some features cannot work without the data they are designed to use.

SportsPal does not intentionally use sensitive or special-category data to infer private characteristics or target advertising. If you voluntarily provide such data in a feature you request, SportsPal processes it only as necessary for that feature, safety, legal compliance, or another lawful basis available under applicable law, including explicit consent where required or information you have deliberately made public.

6. Location, routes, maps, and weather

6.1 Device location

SportsPal requests location permission for features such as nearby discovery, distance estimates, maps, location search, and Live GPS route guidance. You can choose approximate or precise location where your operating system allows it and can change permission later in device settings.

Granting location permission does not by itself publish your current device location to other users. SportsPal may use location signals to return nearby results, operate or measure location features, detect misuse, and diagnose location-related failures. SportsPal does not use precise location for third-party advertising.

6.2 Locations and routes you choose to share

An activity meeting point, club home location, tournament venue, drawn route, uploaded GPX file, saved route, or route history is information you deliberately provide. It may contain precise coordinates and may be visible to participants, members, registered clubs, other users, or the public depending on the feature and audience.

Live GPS is intended to show your position while you actively use route guidance. SportsPal does not publicly broadcast that position merely because Live GPS is open. If you create, save, upload, reuse, post, or share a route, the route and its coordinates may remain stored and visible until you delete the relevant content or account, subject to Section 14.

6.3 Maps, directions, and weather

SportsPal may send a selected location, coordinates, search query, route request, or device/network information to a map, geocoding, navigation, tile, or weather provider to return the feature you requested. Opening Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, or another external app transfers the selected destination and related request to that provider under its own privacy policy.

For activity weather, SportsPal may send the activity's coordinates, date, and time to Open-Meteo or another disclosed weather provider. SportsPal does not need to send your name or private messages to obtain a forecast.

7. Profiles, activities, clubs, tournaments, and visibility

SportsPal is social by design. Depending on the feature and your settings, other users may see your username, display name, profile photo, bio, sports, interests, social links, SportsPals relationship, activity history or participation, posts, reactions, comments, club membership or role, tournament roster or status, and other information you choose to publish.

• Activities: hosts and participants can see information needed to organize the session, including who joined and relevant profile information. The selected meeting point, activity details, participant list, and linked route may be visible to the activity's audience.
• Clubs: members and visitors may see the club identity, members, roles, posts, activities, and home location according to the club's design and settings.
• Tournaments: organizers, clubs, teams, and participants may see organizer details, registered clubs, divisions, eligibility details, rosters, schedules, and other information needed to administer or understand the event.
• SportsPal Pass: a Wallet pass or QR profile link may reveal the profile details encoded in or linked from the pass. Anyone who can scan, photograph, forward, or open the code or link may be able to access that designated information.
• Public content: content visible without an account can be indexed, cached, copied, downloaded, screenshotted, or shared by other people or search engines. SportsPal cannot make recipients forget or delete copies they already obtained.

Review visibility and content before posting. Blocking a user restricts future interaction as designed but may not erase earlier messages, content, screenshots, shared activities, reports, or records needed for safety or legal reasons.

8. Messages, media, notifications, and moderation

Direct and group messages are visible to their participants. They are transmitted and stored using SportsPal's infrastructure and are not end-to-end encrypted. Do not use SportsPal chat for passwords, payment-card details, medical records, government IDs, or other information that requires a confidential channel.

SportsPal personnel or service providers may access, preserve, or review messages, media, metadata, and related account information only where reasonably necessary to:

• deliver, store, secure, troubleshoot, or support the messaging service;
• investigate a user report, suspected abuse, fraud, spam, malware, account compromise, or violation of SportsPal's rules;
• protect a person from serious harm; or
• comply with a valid legal obligation or preserve evidence.

SportsPal may use automated signals to identify spam, suspicious behavior, or technical abuse. A human may review relevant content when a report, appeal, safety issue, or legal request requires context.

Push notifications may contain usernames, profile images, activity information, or message previews. Apple, Google, Expo, and the operating system may process notification metadata and content to deliver the notification. You can disable previews or notifications in SportsPal or device settings.

9. When information is disclosed

SportsPal may disclose personal information in the following limited situations:

• To other users: according to the social, activity, club, tournament, chat, post, route, pass, and visibility functions described in this Policy.
• To service providers: vendors that host data, authenticate users, store media, deliver messages or notifications, provide analytics or crash reporting, deliver app updates, support maps or weather, prevent abuse, or provide customer support. They receive only the information reasonably needed for their role and are subject to appropriate contractual or legal protections where SportsPal controls the processing.
• At your direction: when you sign in through a provider, add a Wallet pass, sync a calendar, open directions, download or share content, visit an external suggestion, or otherwise choose an integration.
• For safety and legal reasons: where disclosure is reasonably believed necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, prevent fraud or serious harm, enforce SportsPal's rules, protect rights and safety, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
• For a business transaction: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale or transfer of all or part of the Service. Appropriate confidentiality, notice, and legal safeguards will be used where required.
• With consent: for another purpose clearly explained when you make the choice.

SportsPal may use and disclose aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably identify you. SportsPal does not attempt to re-identify data treated as de-identified except to test whether de-identification is effective or as permitted by law.

10. Service providers and integrations

The providers below are important to current or platform-dependent SportsPal features. Availability and exact use vary by device and feature. Some providers process data for SportsPal; others act independently under their own privacy policies.

SportsPal reviews providers and limits access according to role, contract, platform rules, and applicable law. A provider list may change as infrastructure changes. Material changes that create a new privacy impact will be reflected in this Policy or an appropriate feature notice.

11. Hosts, organizers, and data about other people

Hosts, club administrators, and tournament organizers can see information made available to them through their role, such as participant profiles, joins, club membership, registrations, rosters, eligibility details, messages, and reports involving their activity or community. They must use that information only for legitimate SportsPal activity, club, or tournament purposes and in accordance with SportsPal's Terms and applicable law.

If an organizer collects information from you outside SportsPal, exports or copies information for an independent purpose, asks you to register on another service, or communicates with you off-platform, that organizer or third party may become independently responsible for that use. Ask the organizer how the information will be handled before providing it.

You may submit information about another person only when you have a lawful reason and appropriate authority to do so. This includes adding someone to a roster, posting a photo, entering organizer contact details, filing a report, forwarding a message, or sharing a route associated with another person. Do not publish another person's sensitive information or precise location without permission.

12. No sale, targeted advertising, or cross-app tracking

SportsPal does not sell or rent personal information. SportsPal does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, does not use app data to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising, and does not use precise location, private messages, or route history for third-party advertising.

SportsPal may measure its own product usage and marketing campaigns, for example through aggregate install, referral, or feature-interaction data. This first-party measurement is used to understand and improve SportsPal, not to build a third-party advertising profile.

SportsPal Picks, venue suggestions, and gear links may direct you to an external service. SportsPal may record that a suggestion or link was opened to operate and improve the feature. The destination may receive normal web request information such as IP address, browser or device details, and referral information. If a link is sponsored or affiliate-based, SportsPal will identify that where required; it does not authorize the destination to receive your private messages or precise device location unless the feature clearly says so and you choose it.

13. International transfers

SportsPal and its providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live, including the United States and other locations where service providers operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws.

Where required for transfers from the EEA, Switzerland, or United Kingdom, SportsPal relies on an adequacy decision, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Agreement, an applicable Data Privacy Framework certification, or another lawful transfer mechanism. SportsPal also considers supplementary safeguards appropriate to the data and provider. You may request information about applicable transfer safeguards by contacting SportsPal.

14. Retention and deletion timelines

SportsPal keeps personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, including providing the Service, maintaining security and continuity, resolving reports, complying with law, and establishing or defending claims. Retention depends on the type of information, whether the account remains active, the sensitivity and risk of the data, user choices, technical backup cycles, and legal obligations.

SportsPal may retain aggregated or de-identified information that no longer identifies you. When information is no longer needed, SportsPal deletes, anonymizes, or securely isolates it according to the relevant system and legal requirements.

15. Your choices and controls

• Account and profile: review and update available profile and preference fields in the app.
• Location: allow approximate or precise location, limit access to the time the app is in use, or disable access through device settings. Deleting permission does not delete locations or routes you already posted or saved.
• Camera, photos, microphone, calendar, and notifications: manage permissions in device settings and available in-app controls. Disabling a permission may disable the related feature.
• Visibility: use available discovery, profile, activity, club, tournament, route, and audience settings. Some information must remain visible for a social or organizer feature to function.
• Messaging and safety: mute, block, leave conversations or activities, and report users or content using available controls.
• Push previews: adjust notification previews at operating-system level to reduce exposure on a locked screen.
• Marketing: use an unsubscribe link or contact SportsPal to stop optional promotional email. You may still receive account, transaction, safety, legal, and Service messages.
• Connected accounts: manage Apple, Google, or Facebook permissions through the provider. Disconnecting sign-in does not automatically delete your SportsPal account.
• Wallet and calendar: remove a pass or event through the relevant app. A provider may retain data under its own policy, and a copied QR code or shared calendar entry may remain with a recipient.

16. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• know whether SportsPal processes your personal information and obtain access or a copy;
• correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
• request deletion;
• restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing;
• receive certain information in a portable format;
• withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent;
• opt out of sale, targeted advertising, or qualifying profiling where local law provides those rights—although SportsPal does not currently sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising;
• appeal a refusal of a privacy request where applicable; and
• complain to a data-protection authority or regulator.

Send requests to sportspalapplication@gmail.com from the email associated with your account where possible. Clearly describe the request and the account involved. SportsPal may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify identity, authority, or residency and will not use verification information for unrelated purposes.

SportsPal will respond within the period required by applicable law. A request may be limited or refused where permitted, including when SportsPal cannot verify the requester, the request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, disclosure would harm another person's rights, or retention is required by law or for legal claims. If a request is denied, SportsPal will explain available appeal or complaint options where required.

You may use an authorized agent where local law permits. SportsPal may require proof of the agent's authority and may need to verify you directly. SportsPal will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right, although deleting or withholding necessary information may make a feature or the Service unavailable.

17. Account deletion

You can request deletion through the available in-app account-deletion control or by emailing sportspalapplication@gmail.com. Deleting the app from your device, logging out, or disconnecting a sign-in provider does not delete the account.

Account deletion removes your profile from ordinary use and starts deletion or anonymization of associated personal information, subject to Section 14. Content shared with others may remain where needed to preserve conversations, activity records, club or tournament continuity, safety evidence, legal compliance, or the rights of other users. Where practical, remaining shared content may be attributed to a deleted or anonymized account.

If you administer a club, activity, or tournament, SportsPal may require reasonable steps to transfer administration, cancel the event, preserve participant communications, or otherwise prevent deletion from disrupting other users. This does not authorize SportsPal to retain more personal information than reasonably necessary.

18. Security

SportsPal uses reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including authenticated access, role-based restrictions, encrypted network connections supported by providers, platform security controls, monitoring, backups, and procedures for responding to suspected incidents. Access to user information is limited to people and providers with a legitimate need.

No service can guarantee perfect security. Protect your account, device, email, and sign-in provider; use unique credentials; do not share authentication links or codes; and report suspected compromise promptly. SportsPal will investigate suspected personal-data breaches and notify affected users or authorities when required by law.

19. Adults only

SportsPal is restricted to individuals aged 18 or older. SportsPal does not permit children or knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

If SportsPal learns that an underage person has created an account, it may suspend the account, request proportionate age information where lawful, and delete the account and associated information, subject to limited safety or legal retention. If you believe someone under 18 is using SportsPal, report the account in the app or email sportspalapplication@gmail.com.

20. Cookies, SDKs, and similar technologies

The mobile apps use software development kits, local storage, device identifiers, authentication tokens, push tokens, and similar technologies for login, database and media functions, notifications, analytics, crash reporting, security, maps, and over-the-air updates.

The SportsPal website may use essential local storage or cookies needed for security, preferences, or basic operation, and its hosting provider may process standard server logs such as IP address, browser, requested page, and time. SportsPal does not currently use this data for third-party behavioral advertising.

Where law requires consent for non-essential analytics or similar technologies, SportsPal will request it before using those technologies or provide an appropriate control. Browser “Do Not Track” signals do not have a single legal or technical standard. SportsPal honors legally recognized opt-out signals, including Global Privacy Control, where they apply; because SportsPal does not sell or share data for targeted advertising, such a signal does not change those practices.

21. Third-party services and outbound links

SportsPal may link to a venue, organizer, retailer, social network, map, navigation app, app store, weather provider, calendar, Wallet service, or other third party. When you open or use that service, it may collect information directly from you and receive normal technical request information. Its privacy policy—not this Policy—governs its independent processing.

SportsPal is not responsible for a third party's independent privacy practices. Review the destination and avoid sending a third party information that is not necessary. User-generated links can lead to unsafe or deceptive destinations; report suspicious links.

22. Ranking and automated processing

SportsPal may automatically sort, filter, or recommend activities, people, clubs, tournaments, locations, routes, and other content using signals such as sport, selected area, distance, date and time, availability, interests, past interactions, social connection, popularity, recency, content quality, and safety or integrity signals.

SportsPal may also use automated signals to detect spam, fraud, suspicious access, prohibited content, or platform abuse. These systems can make mistakes. Where a significant moderation action is eligible for review, you may use the available appeal or support process.

SportsPal does not make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you within the meaning of applicable data-protection law. SportsPal does not use private messages, precise location, or route history to determine eligibility for employment, credit, insurance, housing, education, or another comparable decision.

23. Legal requests and emergencies

SportsPal may preserve or disclose information when it reasonably believes that doing so is necessary to comply with a valid law, court order, or governmental request; prevent or investigate crime, fraud, abuse, or serious harm; protect the rights, property, or safety of SportsPal, users, or the public; or establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim.

SportsPal reviews requests for legal validity, authority, scope, and proportionality where circumstances allow and may challenge or narrow overbroad requests. SportsPal may notify the affected user before disclosure unless prohibited by law, unsafe, impractical in an emergency, or likely to compromise an investigation.

24. Regional notices

24.1 EEA, Switzerland, and United Kingdom

The legal bases, international-transfer safeguards, retention criteria, rights, and contact method are described above. You may complain to the supervisory authority where you live or work or where an alleged violation occurred. Users in Greece may contact the Hellenic Data Protection Authority; users elsewhere in the EEA may find their authority through the European Data Protection Board; UK users may contact the Information Commissioner's Office.

24.2 United States privacy notice

For U.S. state privacy laws, the categories SportsPal may have collected in the preceding 12 months are: identifiers and contact information; characteristics such as age; internet or electronic-network activity; precise and approximate geolocation; audio, visual, and other user content; messages and communications; fitness or activity-related preferences and participation; commercial interaction data for external suggestions; inferences and recommendations; and sensitive personal information such as account credentials, precise geolocation, and the contents of private communications.

SportsPal obtains this information from you, your device, other users, sign-in providers, and service providers. SportsPal uses and discloses it for the operational, safety, analytics, legal, and user-directed purposes in Sections 5 and 9 and retains it using the criteria in Section 14.

SportsPal does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or process it for third-party targeted advertising. SportsPal uses sensitive personal information only to provide requested features, secure the Service, protect users, comply with law, or for other purposes permitted without a right to limit under applicable law; it does not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics for advertising.

Residents of states with applicable privacy laws may have rights described in Section 16, including appeal and authorized-agent rights. California residents may also request information about categories collected, sources, purposes, disclosures, and specific pieces of personal information. SportsPal does not provide financial incentives in exchange for personal information.

24.3 Other regions

Residents of Brazil, Canada, and other jurisdictions may have additional rights under local law, including confirmation of processing, access, correction, deletion, portability, withdrawal of consent, objection, information about disclosures, and complaint or review rights. SportsPal will honor applicable rights and mandatory local protections even if they are not listed word-for-word in this Policy.

25. Changes to this Policy

SportsPal may update this Policy as the Service, providers, or law changes. The current version will be posted with a revised effective or “last updated” date. If a change materially affects your rights or how SportsPal uses personal information, SportsPal will provide additional notice before the change takes effect where required, such as an in-app message, email, or prominent website notice.

A Privacy Policy is a notice, not a way to obtain consent for an unrelated new use. Where a new use requires consent, SportsPal will request it separately.

Include enough information to identify the account and understand the request, but do not email passwords, authentication codes, government IDs, complete payment information, medical records, or unnecessary sensitive information.
